If too much of the money goes on one team, the bookmaker will move the line or point spread to encourage bets on the other team in an effort to balance his book. The person you are attempting to beat is the odds maker and his views on each team's chances. Just by flipping a coin you will be right 50 percent of the time. At odds of 10/11 only 52.4 percent of your bets have to win for you to overcome the bookmaker's profit and break even, so you only need a very small edge to become a winner. Do your homework, bet selectively and 55 percent winning bets is definitely achievable and 60-65 percent is a realistic target. At those levels you will have an extremely profitable, as well as enjoyable, hobby.

Buying Points
Buying Points allows you the ability to change the point spread of a football or basketball game. You can move the point spread so you get more points if you are betting the underdog or you give away less points if you are betting the favorite. For each half point that you change the point spread you need to pay an extra 10%.
So for example, if you are betting the Lakers -5 -110 (lay $110 to win $100), you can buy the Lakers a half point to -4.5 -120 (lay $120 to win $100). You can buy the Lakers a full point to -4 -130 (lay $130 to win $100).
Same theory is true for the underdog. If the Bulls are +4 -110, you buy the game to +4.5 -120 or +5 -130.
You can only buy a maximum of 3 points in Football and Basketball, both college and pro.
There is one special rule. When buying on or off the number 3 in the NFL, there is a premium cost of 20%, not 10%. So for example to move the Chargers from -3 -110 to -2.5, the new line will be -2.5 -130 (lay $130 to win $100). The same is true for the underdog, to buy Bears from +3 -110 to +3.5 will be -130 (lay $130 to win $110).

3 Team 10 point Football and 7 Point Basketball Teasers Odds are 10/12 --Ties Lose Teasers:
A Teaser is a selection of two or more teams in one wager in which the point spread is adjusted in your favor. The number of teams selected and the number of points selected determines the payout odds. A "Tie" or "No Action" and a "Win" on a two team teaser shall constitute a "No Action" wager. A "Tie" or a "No Action" and a "Loss" on a two team teaser shall constitute a "Losing" wager. Ties on a three or more team teaser shall revert to the next lowest betting bracket. (Example: A tie on a three team becomes a two team teaser.)
An example of a teaser wagers is as follows. For our example, let us say you wish to choose three football teams: Denver -7, New York -3 and Chicago +15. The payout of the wager is dependant upon how many points you wish to receive. Let us choose a 3 team 7 point teaser. If we look at the chart below, this wager is listed as 12/10, which means we will win $12 for every $10 that we wager. The point spreads are adjusted as follows
- Denver -7 plus the adjusted seven points = Even
- New York -3 plus the adjusted seven points = +4
- Chicago +15 plus the adjusted seven points = +22
Therefore, if each and every one of the three teams wins against the adjusted spread, you win $12 for every $10 you wager.
Please note that wagering on both sides of the same event in Parlays and Teasers is not allowed and will result in all wagers in which teams are bet on opposite sides of the event being graded as a loss.
Parlays:
A parlay is the selection of 2 or more teams (up to 10) in no particular order in a single wager. All teams in the parlay must win, if there is a tie it reverts to the next lowest number for payoff. (Example: If you select 4 teams and one ties, it becomes a three team parlay). Tie and win on two teamer becomes straight bet (90% of wager)

True Odds for Baseball and European Lines
The odds on a multiple or an accumulator are calculated by multiplying the prices of the selections together, but remembering to include the stake amount. Let's assume you place a double on two selections, with odds of a/b and c/d. The calculation to work out your returns (including your stake) is as follows:
[ (a+b)/b * (c+d)/d ] times your stake
Example:
You place 10 on two selections, with odds of 2/1 and 7/2. The calculation is as follows:
[ (2+1)/1 * (7+2)/2 ] times your stake of 10
= 13.5 times your stake of 10
Your returns are therefore 135.00 (including your stake)

Progressive Parlays are the Real Payoff
There are very few casinos or sportsbooks that offer Progressive Parlays, less than a handful and you will not find these anywhere in Las Vegas.

How does a Progressive Parlay work? In fact, it's quite simple. In exchange for not getting quite as big a payout for picking a perfect combination, you are getting insurance for those rare occasions when one or more or the teams in your parlay losses.
Let us look at an example. An 8 team progressive parlay for $10 will payout $750 for making a perfect 8 team winning combination. If you are only able to find 7 winners then you win $100. And if you only bring home 6 winners then you will still find a winning ticket for $20.

Placing Wagers
There are different ways to place wagers within the different sports, both individually and geographically. North American betting is different from wagering on European sports while betting on a hockey game is different from betting on a basketball game. Here is a basic outline for betting on all sports types:
First choose the sport you wish to bet on. Click on the pull-down menu that contains the words "Select A Bet Type" to choose which kind of wager you want to place. Then select how much you wish to wager by entering it into the wager box beside the pull-down menu. Now scroll through the available games and choose which team or teams you wish to bet on. To choose a team click on the small box beside the line and you will have chosen that team. If you are making a combination bet, known as a parlay or teaser, you must choose as many teams as is necessary to complete the multiple team wager. This is determined by the type of bet you choose.
After you are sure of your selection, go to the top and click on the "Place Bet" button. This will now place your wager on the right side of the screen, which is your betting ticket. If you try to place a wager and a red bar comes up on your betting ticket you have made a mistake in selecting your bet. Read the message in the red bar and it will inform you of the error and give you appropriate instructions to correct the mistake.
Before you submit your betting ticket please make sure to reload or refresh your page so you can see the most current lines. The lines can change often and quickly, so make sure the lines are where you want them before you submit your betting ticket. If you find that one or more of the wagers on your betting ticket is not what you want, simply click the "Cancel" or "Cancel All" button and the wagers will be dropped from your betting ticket. Once completely satisfied with the wager you have made, go to the bottom of the betting ticket and type the word "Yes" in the confirmation box and then click on the "Submit" button. Your wager will now be submitted. A confirmation notice will appear and you can view your wagers in the "Pending Wagers" section.

Confirming Wagers
After Placing a Wager, the bet will appear in the window on the right hand side of the screen. At this point, your bet has Not completed nor accepted. You must go to the bottom of the betting ticket and type the word "Yes" in the confirmation box and then click on the "Submit" button. Your wager will now be submitted. A confirmation notice will appear and you can view your wagers in the "Pending Wagers" section.
You will see your bet confirmation number listed in the red area at the top of the confirmation screen. If you do not get a bet confirmation number, then your bet has not been accepted. We suggest that you check your pending wagers screen once you have completed placing all your wagers. If your bet is not listed in the pending wagers screen, then you were not successful in placing that wager and you must try again.
Straight Bets: The team wagered on must win by the point spread given at the time of the wager. For straight wagers, unless otherwise indicated, the odds are $1.10 to win $1.00. Games that tie are considered "no action" and money is re-deposited back into your account. Due to changing events, the point spread may fluctuate at any time.
Example: Player wagers $110.00 on Miami -7 to beat Buffalo +7
If Miami wins by more than 7 points the player wins $100.00 so the total payout including the initial wager would be $210.00. If Miami only wins by 7 points then the game is considered "no action" and all money is returned to the bettor. If the Miami wins by less than 7 points the wagers is lost.
Totals: The combined score of both teams for games wagered on, all totals lay $1.10 to win $1.00 unless it is otherwise indicated.
Example: The player lays $220.00 on the OVER in the Miami/Buffalo game. The total for the game is 45. If both teams' combined score is more than 45 than the player would win $200.00. If the combined score is equal 45 the game is considered "no action" and the money is returned. If the combined score is less than 45 then the wager is lost.
Money Line Wagers: The team wagered on just has to win the game. The amount you lay or take for each game may vary. The money line that is read to at the time of your wager is the money line you keep regardless of any line movement.
Example: The player wagers on Miami -160 at Buffalo +260. If Miami wins then the player would lay $160.00 to win $100.00. If the player bet on Buffalo then the player would lay $100.00 to win $260.00
Halftime: The wager is placed on the odds posted for the second half of a game only. All wagers must go the full second half for action. All halftime wagers are calculated the same as a straight wager unless otherwise indicated. There are no teaser plays or buying of points on halftimes. First half lines are also available.
Parlays: This is a selection of 2 or more teams (up to 10 teams) or propositions in no particular order. All teams wagered on in a parlay must win. If there is a tie, it reverts down to the next lowest number for payoff.
Example: Player wants to make a 5 team parlay:
Miami -7 New York +3 Seattle -4 Denver -10 San Francisco -8
If all these games win then the player would have won at 20-1 odds. If only 1 team loses then the entire parlay loses.
Futures and Propositions: Future wagers are based on the outcome of events that happen each year. All wagers are final. There will be no payouts until the conclusion of the specified season. Proposition plays are wagers based on the outcome of events that happen each year. Odds change daily and all wagers are considered action at the odds quoted at the time of the wager.
Circled Game: A game where the maximum bet is restricted, usually due to injuries.
Lines: Another word for odds.
Pick: A game where no team or betting option is favorite.
Pointspread: The handicap, or head start, which the favorite gives to the underdog for betting purposes.
Push: A game which, with the pointspread, is tied or when the combined scores of the two teams ties the total.
Single: A bet on a single result or outcome.
Spread: An abbreviated form of pointspread.
Baseball
Wagering on baseball is done by laying or taking money odds.
The minus (-) indicates the favorite
The plus (+) indicates the underdog
On money odds whenever there is a minus (-) you lay that amount to win a dollar, where there is a plus (+)you get that amount for every dollar wagered.
Example:
Dodgers: +1.50
Phillies: -1.60
Player would lay $160 to win $100 or $16 to win $10 on the Phillies.
Player wagers $100 to win $150 or $10 to win $15 on the Dodgers.
Boxing
Wagering is similar to baseball
In the event of a draw, moneys on the fight itself will be refunded. However, specific fight propositions must come as stated, such as a draw, either fighter by knockout or decision or a specific round knockout etc. Rounds propositions will be governed by the rules posted on our wagering sheets or as stated at the time of the wager. In the event that either fighter does not make the required weight but the bout goes on, the following stipulations apply: When the bell sounds for the first round, the bout will be considered official, regardless of the scheduled length or title. The bout must have the original scheduled length to have action on a rounds proposition.
Hockey
Wagering on hockey is done by laying or taking goals and money odds.
The minus (-) indicates the favorite
The plus (+) indicates the underdog
Example:
Bruins: + 1/2 Even
Kings: - 1/2 -1.40
Player would lay 1/2 goal and $140 to win $100 on the Kings. Player would wager $100 and take 1/2 goal to win $100 on the Bruins.
Soccer
Bets taken on “2nd Half Lines” will be settled on 45 minutes of the Second half plus any added injury time or stoppage time. Extra Time, Golden Goals and Penalty Shoot-Outs do not count. Goals scored in the first half do not count toward the second half wager.
Beach Soccer
Beach Soccer is based on 36 minutes of play (3 periods of 12 minutes) followed by extra periods and penalty shots, if necessary, to decide who wins the match. Bets are graded on normal regulation time (36 minutes plus any time added by the referee in respect of injuries and other stoppages). Extra Time and Penalty Shoot-Outs do not count for wagering purposes.*
Futsal
All bets on Futsal matches are based on the score at the end of 40 minutes' play unless otherwise stated or if the relevant wagering option has already been decided. Extra Time and Penalty Shootouts do not count. If a match is abandoned and/or suspended before the completion of 40 minutes' play, all bets shall be void unless the relevant wagering option has already been decided. All bets on matches that are postponed, rearranged or moved to a different venue shall be void.
European Odds
All European football lines are quoted using European odds. European odds are different from the North American style of odds. In North America money lines are used to determine the line. European odds are very simple to understand. Let's say the team you want to bet is on offer at 4.00.
That means that for every $1 you bet on them, you get back $4 if they win. That means you have a profit of $3 plus your $1 stake returned. If you lose, you lose your $1.
If the team is at 1.60, you only make $0.60 profit on your $1 stake and you get your $1 stake back.
Some bettors are used to the American system of betting. This is where odds are expressed as -180 or +300. If you place a bet at -180, it means that you need to bet $180 to win $100. That is the same as 1.55 in European betting. And a bet at +300 means that you win $300 for every $100 you bet - the same as 4.00 in European odds.
Combination Bets (parlays)
A Combination bet involves several different propositions. The customer must correctly choose all the propositions to win. The customer can combine a minimum of 2 propositions and a maximum of 12.
Calculating combination odds using European odds is very simple. You simply take the price of each event that you wagered on and multiply them together.
For example, let's say you wish to wager on Arsenal at 2.5, Manchester at 1.7 and Liverpool at 2.1. A combination bet of all three teams would pay 2.5 x 1.7 x 2.1 = 8.93. If you wager amount is $100 then the payoff would be $100 x 8.93 = $893 (this includes your original stake, so your winnings are 893 -100 = 793)
